Recently, our active brothers were able to host our first Sweets Week since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled the Philanthropy Week last year. We raised $8,394.69, beating the record by over $3,000! Last year, we were forced to rely solely on the sale of our Sweets Week 2020 T-Shirts to donate to the Boys and Girls Club of Bowling Green. This inspired us this year to bring some extra energy to try to raise as much money as possible for the Boys and Girls Club. Planning the week was Lukas Motley (Fall 2018), as he was recently elected to the new position of Vice President of Philanthropy earlier this semester. All events required social distancing and masks, as well as on campus events had to approved by the WKU COVID-19 Task Force. Now, here is the timeline of events that we held during Sweets Week 2021!
We had many different events which contributed to this record breaking sweets week. We held Penny Wars where every sorority competed against each other. The basis around the contest is that a penny ($.01) is worth 1 point for the sorority that donates it into their own bin. However, all other forms of currency are negative for their value. These are placed in another sorority’s bin so they lose points. For example, donating 5 pennies into your own bin is +5 points, but if someone follows behind you and puts in a nickel then you are back at 0 points. This raised $1,663.16!

We held Grilled Cheese and SPE’s where we cooked and delivered grilled cheese, quesadillas, chips, and drinks to ladies. We received over 50 orders.
We held our annual Big/Little Pageant was held via Twitter and the competitors raised money on their own throughout the day to determine the winner. This raised $568.
We had our first ever date auction. We had 18 brothers up for auction. This was extremely successful. We raised $2,292 and we even had a brother sell for $340.
To raise even more money, we decided to run a “Last Hour Points Deal.” If a sorority donated via Venmo from 3:45pm to 5:00pm, then they had the option to gain Sweets Week overall points. They could get 1 Sweets Week Point for their chapter or taken away from another chapter per $2.50 that they donated! We raised $1,609.50 raised from this last second event
This week was a resounding success, and we are proud to be able to raise this money for the Boys and Girls Club of Bowling Green. Phi Mu won the overall week, and they won $100 towards their Philanthropy, as well as the Golden Pineapple Trophy! We couldn’t have had such a successful week without great planning from our VP of Philanthropy, Lukas Motley, and the hard work of all the brothers in our chapter.
